Nicholas Phan an Artist To Watch in Gramophone

Among America’s singophiles, there’s a buzz about Nicholas Phan.  Even in a country that doesn’t exactly want for fine singers, his name is on people’s lips.  ‘Vocally and dramatically at the level of the finest international artists,’ enthused the Chicago Sun-Times last September, about Phan’s portrayal of Hyllus, son of Hercules, in Handel’s opera about the mythical strongman.  This season saw him return to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, and with Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center also under his belt, the invitations are becoming ever more prestigious.
